No starter motor. You have MGB (Motor/Generator B) driving the wheels. MGA (Motor/Generator A) connected to the Engine. When the engine needs to start, MGA spins the engine up to speed, then the fuel and spark are turned on.

Does the chevy volt have a electric starter motor, or does it use the electric motor to start the gas motor. If you have the power on and open the hood the gas motor will start. But you do not hear a electric motor turn the gas engine over. And the gas motor starts very fast. Is it like a Oman power plant,starter and gen in one.
