New Volt Owner has a question

I just picked up my 2012 Volt last Saturday and am more than impressed. After using is for over 300 miles already I don't foresee ever needing gas. I can get to work on a full charge, then charge at work and get home on a full charge. My question is, will the engine turn on after so many miles just to run it and use some gas and ensure everything works fine? I could only imagine that the full tank of gas will go bad after a period of time. Just curious.

Thanks

Volts have an Engine Maintenance Mode that will run the engine once every 6 weeks, if I remember correctly, just to lube the engine. I believe it asks for permission to run the engine. It will only run for a minute or so. If you say no it will put off the run for a short time, maybe the next run cycle, then it will run it without asking.
Volts also have a Fuel Maintenance Mode that will automatically burn about 3 gallons gas if no gas has been added to the tank within the last year.

Of course, it's important to note that there are just a whole lot of Prius owners out there, since Toyota has had phenomenal success with its Prius family of hybrids.

"Gas going bad" is a reason GM recommends Premium gas.
