Default Chevrolet Volt Sales Limited For April

General Motors had limited the sales of the Chevrolet Volt for April as the brand is bumping up supplies of demonstration models. Cristi Landy, Chevrolet marketing director said in a statement "It's tough to limit the number of Volts for sale to potential customers when demand is so strong, but the Volt has value to the Chevrolet portfolio well beyond incremental sales,"

GM expects to sell from 400 to 500 Volts in April, said Rob Peterson, a GM spokesman, down from 608 in March; official sales figures for the month are due today. As well GM expects to build 15,000 Volts in the first year of production at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant, selling 10,000 here, 2,500 outside the United States and retaining 2,500 demo models.

The company delivered nearly 300 demo Volts to dealers in California, Michigan, Texas, New York, Washington D.C and New Jersey last month further improving customer perception. The company explains that even if customers buy different fuel efficient models, the exposure of the Volt vehicle is at the priority. "We expect to sell every one of the 10,000 units produced," said Peterson.

We know the best way to experience the Volt is to get behind the wheel and drive it," Landy said. "An added bonus is that our dealers are seeing that the Volt is increasing traffic on to our dealer showroom floors and is exposing consumers to Chevy's line of 'gas-friendly' vehicles, including the Cruze, Malibu and Equinox."

It might not get the billing of the Detroit or LA shows, but the NY Auto Show is always host to numerous important world premieres. This year's event will showcase the all-new Viper, launched under the newly-founded SRT brand. Also look for the reveal of the all-new Nissan Pathfinder, Hyundai Santa Fe, Acura RL and Mercedes SL63 AMG.
