Smile 240 Volt Charging

After ordering the SPX charger from Chevy dealer, I was told they could no longer furnish them and I would have to order from SPX. I did and it came in in 4 days. I got a local electrican, Mark Fishburn to install. (Dedicated Elec Service) in Greenville SC He did the job in just over 1 hour with a cost of $225. I am very pleased with the unit and it does charge very fast! With my driving in rural SC I can possiblly never by gas.

Default 240 Volt charger now working

I finially ordered the SPX home charger and got a local electrican to install. He did a quick and great job and my charging time is now 3.6 hours (aprox)With my several short trips a day I am using very little gas and am well pleased. BTW - the total charge to install was $230 that was much cheaper than the SPX estimate.

I went with the Free Charger from Duke Energy which serves Greenville SC. Its a Semens Unit on a 40 amp breaker. I am on the sign up list for the EVATRAN cordless chargers but I will wait to see their final efficiency before purchasing (I have heard 85% currently) Have fun, RIck

for those wanting to install a 240v charger...I haven't seen the tech specs for it but should be a pretty simple 3 wire installation. 2 wires (red and black) will get connected to the breaker inside the box. then the white will get connected to the ground/neutral stip (with all the other white wires). route the wire to where the station is mounted then connect the red/black wires to the negative terminals and the white wire to the neutral terminal. turn the breaker on and you're done. I'm not an electrican, but as long as you're only doing a direct wire like this it is really as simple as it seems. I wired a 240v air compressor in this spring and that's all it took.

I just got a volt today, and will be checking around the site to see all the good info you guys have shared. thanks!

I conjointly see a 800# for them and talked to a sales woman. i used to be discouraged from have them do the installation because the price will total over $2000.

Default blink

I just got a free 30 amp blink charger for my volt... free for volt owners in the chicago area. Works great and got $400 off my final install cost too.

Please help out a newbie here. What is the reason for getting a charging station v. just getting a 240V line run in the garage? In other words, what benefit does the charging station provide?

Thanks.

@DAC - the 220v charge station significantly reduces charging time (by half the time) compared to the 110v convenience cord. There are quite a few incentives for free charging stations and rebates for installations. Great deal if its available in your area.
